Gear Review: Merrell Women’s Captiva Strap Waterproof Boot

Gear Review: Merrell Women's Captiva Strap Waterproof Boot (4)

Another amazingly useful item from my travels through Europe!

I’ve wanted a knee-high casual boot for a long time, but most I found had issues — trendy, saggy ankles (never the best look on me), too much of a heel, not tall enough, or not tall enough… so when these Merrell boots (Merrell Captiva Strap) went on sale at REI, I snatched them up immediately right before we departed for Europe.

So, three months later, this is how they look. In short? I loved them. I started the trip out with three pairs of shoes — sandals, sneakers, and these boots. Halfway through, I shipped back the sandals and sneakers and these boots were my only pair for sightseeing, traveling, hiking, trudging through rain, and everything else.

Pros:

  • Super comfortable.
  • Very attractive, looks great over skinny jeans.
  • Waterproof. Absolutely no issues with water getting in.

Cons:

  • Minor con — a friend who has these boots as well as complained about the calf area relaxing into permanent folds and causing chafing on her ankles. You can kind of see the folds starting on the pic above. Highly recommend using a boot tree to keep this from happening.
  • I also kinda wish the heel was a tiny bit taller. Then again, probably a good thing it isn’t since I used the boots to hike in as well.

Loved these boots. You can buy the boots from Amazon.
