When you have a visitor from snowy Canada to sunny California, you’re pretty much required to hit the beach. Nevermind that the water is (always) freezing, which is always disappointing to visitors.
My partner’s mother is visiting so we headed south to Moss Landing, after reading rave reviews of a local fish restaurant (spoilers: the clam chowder in the bread bowl was one of the best I’ve ever had; the halibut and scallops were merely okay.) The beach above is right off of the restaurant, with numerous signs all warning about the danger of going in. The waves were massive. But the sun was warm and the marine layer burned off during lunch, and the beach day was simply wonderful.
